You read that correctly. After much research TRK9 has found that there is more harm to the vet recommended vaccination schedule than there is good. Now, don't confuse the fact that we don't vaccinate our dogs to mean that our dogs aren't immune. Regular titer testing proves that they are. But the Stephen Hawking litter in 2018 is the LAST litter in which each pup received vaccines. And even then it was only parvo/distemper and not a 3-way or 4-way vaccine. The dam to that litter, Kita, has received only one parvo/distermper combo vaccine at the age of 16 weeks. And she itched for almost a year afterwards. Pups from that litter had similar reactions after their parvo/distemper combo shot and so it was decided that we would find another way. One puppy, Lyra, stayed with us from that litter. She received her 16 week shot, and will be titered from now on. At that time we did not have another way, although we were proponents of minimal vaccines. Kita is now 6 years old and remains immune after only one vaccine. But we do recall the itching... Titers are the way to go.
The only vaccine that you muct receive is Rabies. And that is actually at the discretion of your vet as to give you a waiver based on their expertise. I know several vets that don't give their own pets rabies vaccines. You can actually titer for rabies. If your dog isn't running lose in the park or roaming the neighborhood its highly unlikely they will ever come into contact with a rabid animal. But even if they did, they would still be covered if a titer shows immunity irregardless of how many vaccines you have given the dog. The best way to locate a vet that is interested in minimal vaccinations is to call and ask. They likely have experience in Eastern Medicine, and will also be proponents of homeopathic remedies. I've gone through MANY vets. They work for you, so if they aren't listening to your concerns that find someone else.
More information is available at the link below. It may open your eyes to what we are doing to our dogs and how we, as owners, can do better. I do not, however, force this on anyone or send dogs home with nosodes. Incorrectly applied, this venue can do serious damage and result in a very sick pup. If you are interested in learning more than please start with the link below and take the required educational courses. Ask me questions and I will point you toward the resources I know of. In any case you should consider minimal vaccinations as listed with Jean Dodds, and there is a link to her information under out "links" tab.
So in the future pups will go to their homes with all the information they will need to be healthy, but I will work with interested owners if they would prefer not to traditionally vaccinate their dogs.
BARF and raw diets are difficult. There are loads of places to talk about the subject, but no one actually tells you how to do it. There are websites with recipes, and they are trying to sell you the supplements that you will need to make your dog's diet balanced. I have tried the, but I had a difficult time getting my dogs to eat those supplements. They just taste bad. I've been through LOADS of commercial raw diets, commercial freeze dried diets, and all I can say is that my dogs don't care for them either. What I finally was able to located was some links that provided recipes for the supplements themselves, not just the meat and potatoes, as it were. Kibble is loaded with sugar. And to be honest they use the waste animals from commercial farms that die and decay in the sun until a big truck takes them to a rendering plant. Such food has been recalled for disease, contamination, metals, plastic, and even intentional poison. Here are some links that you might find useful in an actual transition to better food for your dog.
We have gone through several commercial raw diets. Some the dogs don't like, if you can believe that. Some come out the same way they went in, so I know there is little nutrition. I've found one that has been working for us, both convenient AND around $3.50 a lb, which is cheaper than I can make it. BJs Raw pet food is based in Lancaster, PA. If you purchase over $150 its shipped free. So give it a shot and see what you think. The following brands DON'T work for the TRK9 crew, Honest Kitchen, Stella & Chewy, Primal Pet, Nature's Variety Instinct.
